Recall turns a page you scan or a lecture you record into flashcards, then helps you remember them with spaced repetition — entirely on your iPhone. If something isn’t working or you have a question, we’re glad to help.

Common questions
Where do my notes and cards go?
Nowhere but your iPhone. Recall has no servers and no accounts. Reading your pages, writing the cards, and transcribing audio all happen on-device — try it in Airplane Mode and nothing changes.
Do I need Apple Intelligence?
The best cards are written by Apple Intelligence, which needs a supported iPhone with it enabled in Settings. Without it, Recall falls back to its own built-in method and still builds useful question-and-answer and cloze cards from your text — nothing crashes either way.
How does scanning a page work?
On the Create tab, choose Scan pages to use the camera, or Import photos to pick pictures you already have. Recall reads the text with on-device recognition and writes cards from it. You review and edit the draft deck before anything is saved.
A lecture didn’t transcribe — what happened?
Audio transcription uses Apple’s on-device speech recognition and only works with a language whose speech model your device already has installed. If your language isn’t available, add its keyboard dictation in iOS Settings, then try again. Recall itself never downloads a model, which is how it stays fully offline.
How does syncing across my devices work?
Syncing is optional and uses your own private iCloud (CloudKit). Turn it on and your decks and progress appear on your other devices signed in to the same Apple Account. It flows through Apple’s iCloud, not our servers — we never see your data. Leave it off and everything stays on the device you’re using.
Can I share a deck with someone?
Yes. Open a deck’s menu and choose Share deck to export a .recalldeck file you can send however you like. When someone opens it in Recall it becomes a fresh deck for them — the cards travel, your study progress does not.
How do backups work?
In Settings, choose Back up, set a passphrase, and pick a folder. Recall writes an encrypted, passphrase-sealed copy there. Keep your passphrase safe — we can’t recover it, which is exactly the point. To restore, pick the backup file and enter the passphrase.
How do I export or delete everything?
Any deck’s menu can export it as Markdown or CSV. Settings → Delete Everything erases every deck, card, and scanned page from your device. Deleting the app removes all of it too.
