Privacy Policy

Recall collects no data. Every page you scan, every card it writes, your study history, and your settings are created and stored only on your device. Nothing is transmitted to us or to any third party. You can confirm this yourself: turn on Airplane Mode and the app works exactly the same.

To do its job, Recall works with the material you bring in — photos and scans of pages, PDFs, text notes, and audio lectures — the text it reads from them, the flashcards it writes, the subjects you assign, and your review history and schedule. All of this is kept in the app’s private storage on your iPhone and nowhere else.

The page reading (OCR), the intelligence that writes your cards, and the transcription of audio lectures all run entirely on-device using Apple’s built-in frameworks. Your content is not sent to Recall, to Apple as data collection, or to any external service for processing.

• No accounts and no sign-in.
• No analytics, telemetry, advertising, or tracking of any kind.
• No third-party SDKs. The app contains no networking code.
• We never receive, store, sell, or share your notes or cards — because we never receive them in the first place.

Recall can keep your decks and progress in sync across your own devices. If you turn this on, syncing happens through your own private iCloud database (Apple’s CloudKit) — the same iCloud that backs up the rest of your Apple devices. That storage belongs to your Apple account. Recall’s developer has no access to it and never receives your data. If you leave iCloud off, everything stays only on the device you are using.

Audio transcription. When you record or import a lecture, Recall transcribes it using Apple’s on-device speech recognition. It uses only speech models your device already has installed and never downloads one, so transcription works offline and no audio leaves your phone.

Encrypted backup. If you create a backup, Recall encrypts it with a passphrase you choose and writes it to a folder you pick (for example, a Files or iCloud Drive location). Only someone with your passphrase can open it. We never see the passphrase or the backup.

Sharing a deck. If you share a deck as a file, it goes only where you send it. The file contains the cards’ text and any diagram images — never your study progress.

Notifications. If you allow notifications, study reminders are scheduled locally on your device. No reminder content leaves the phone.

You can export any deck as Markdown or CSV, make an encrypted backup, delete individual decks (which also removes their scanned pages), or erase everything from Settings. Deleting the app removes all of its data from your device. Because nothing is stored on our servers, there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf.

Recall is rated 4+ and collects no data from anyone, including children.

If Recall’s data practices ever change, this page will be updated before the change ships, and the date above will change with it.
