Ecoa turns what you say into organised notes, tasks, and reminders — entirely on your iPhone. If something isn’t working or you have a question, we’re glad to help.

Common questions
Where do my recordings and notes go?
Nowhere but your iPhone. Ecoa has no servers and no accounts. Recording, transcription, and analysis all happen on-device — try it in Airplane Mode and nothing changes.
Do I need Apple Intelligence?
The smartest features — titles, summaries, auto-categorisation, Ask-your-echo, and weekly reflections — use Apple Intelligence, which needs a supported iPhone with it enabled in Settings. On other devices, Ecoa falls back to its own built-in analysis and still transcribes, organises, and reminds.
How do I add a language?
Open Settings → Languages, search for the language you want, and tap Download. The speech model installs once and then works offline. Because iOS limits how many speech models an app can hold at once, adding a new one may replace your least-recently used language — it re-downloads any time you need it again.
Recording didn’t transcribe — what happened?
Make sure the language you recorded in is downloaded (Settings → Languages) and that microphone and speech permissions are allowed. Your audio is always kept, so you can open the note and tap “Re-transcribe” once the right language is installed.
How do backups work?
In Settings → Encrypted Backup, choose a passphrase and a folder. Ecoa writes an encrypted, passphrase-sealed copy there and can refresh it automatically. Keep your passphrase safe — we can’t recover it, which is exactly the point. To restore, pick the backup file and enter the passphrase.
Is the Journal a medical or wellbeing tool?
No. Journal mode offers gentle prompts and optional mood check-ins and traces how the energy of your words changes over time. It is reflective, not clinical — Ecoa never diagnoses, scores, or advises. If you’re struggling, please reach out to a qualified professional or a local support line.
How do I export or delete everything?
Settings → Export All Data gives you a Markdown-and-audio archive. Settings → Delete Everything erases every note, recording, and task from your device. Deleting the app removes all of it too.
